Kuraby station precinct

The Kuraby station precinct is being upgraded to improve accessibility, safety, and customer experience for the community.

We will retain the existing station platforms and deliver a range of improvements to make travel easier and safer, including increased platform coverage, new lifts and improved park 'n' ride facilities.

Precinct changes also include removal of the nearby Beenleigh Road level crossing, to be replaced with a road-over-rail bridge for improved safety and reduced local traffic congestion.

Beenleigh Road, Kuraby level crossing removal

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is removing five level crossings between Kuraby and Beenleigh as part of the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project to help improve safety, reduce congestion, and improve cross-corridor connections for local communities. The level crossing at Beenleigh Road, Kuraby is the first to be removed.

In late 2023, TMR sought public feedback on the initial design for the open level crossing removals. The response showed us that access to key community facilities, accessible crossings, and local road connections was a priority for the community.

In September 2024, Bielby Hull Joint Venture (BHJV) was awarded the design and construct contract to deliver the level crossing removal at Beenleigh Road, Kuraby.

The proposed solution at Kuraby will build on the previous refined reference design to provide a new road-over-rail bridge and improve local walkability and access across the rail corridor.

Drop-in information sessions are also being hosted, to provide an opportunity to ask questions and speak to our team, one-on-one. The dates, times and locations of upcoming sessions are listed on the right-hand side of this page.

Design

Beenleigh Road, Kuraby

Benefits

The preliminary design for the level crossing removal on Beenleigh Road has been developed to achieve a design that is safe and suitable for all road users and best accommodates future traffic growth and the new four track railway.

Key features of the preliminary design include:

  • Enhanced pedestrian and cyclist connectivity through new accessible pathways on Beenleigh Road and on both sides of the bridge, and safer crossings with raised pedestrian and signalised crossings.

  • Road and intersection realignments to prioritise key traffic movements, minimise traffic queuing and improve traffic flow.

  • Adjustments to local intersections, such as relocating the Beenleigh Road signalised intersection from the proposed location at Winifred Street to Donegal Street and upgrades to the intersection at St Davids Street.

  • A widened bridge design will allow future expansion of Beenleigh Road, with space for up to four lanes to accommodate future travel demands and paths on both sides of the bridge.

Kuraby station and track works

TMR recently commenced the design development and pre-construction phase of the major rail works package for the project.

The LGC Rail Alliance (comprised of the ActivUs consortium, TMR and Queensland Rail) has now commenced the design development, further construction planning activities and additional site investigations.

More information about the Kuraby station design and track works will be made available in the coming months.
