A seamless public transport connection

The Queensland Government is committed to delivering transformative infrastructure for the Sunshine Coast, with The Wave set to revolutionise public transport in the region as part of the 2032 Delivery Plan for the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.

This visionary initiative includes:

  • a new heavy passenger rail line connecting Beerwah to Birtinya (The Wave Stages 1 and 2)
  • a new high-capacity, high-frequency metro-style service extending from Birtinya to the Sunshine Coast Airport via Mountain Creek and Maroochydore CBD (The Wave Stage 3)
  • the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade will play a pivotal role in enabling the successful delivery of The Wave.

As the Sunshine Coast prepares for significant population growth, The Wave will provide a modern, accessible, and efficient public transport system, ensuring the region is well-connected and future-ready. This investment underscores the Queensland Government's commitment to enhancing liveability, supporting sustainable growth, and delivering long-term benefits for the community.
