Station precincts

Planning is continuing for new stations across the Sunshine Coast, along with improvements to the existing Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) station for The Wave Stage 3 (Metro).

These stations will not only serve as transit hubs but will also become vibrant, connected spaces that foster a sense of belonging and purpose. Our goal is to create precincts that are welcoming, accessible, and inclusive for everyone.

Stations will be located at:

Sunshine Coast University Hospital (upgrade of existing station)
Birtinya station (interchange)
Mountain Creek
Maroochydore CBD
Sunshine Coast Airport

While the locations for Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Birtinya, and Mountain Creek stations have been confirmed, the final design and location of all station precincts will be determined through further planning and investigations.

Following community consultation in 2025, we are seeking further feedback to help inform the design of these stations and surrounding precincts. Your input will help us understand what matters most to the community and how the stations can best support people’s daily journeys.

Community insights on station precincts to date

In late 2025, we conducted community consultation to gather community feedback on The Wave Stage 3 (Metro). The feedback received provided valuable insights into community and stakeholder priorities relating to station precincts and features to enhance their journeys. Key themes from the feedback included:

station locations and connectivity
route alignment
bike storage and active transport infrastructure
park 'n' ride facilities
accessibility
passenger comfort.

Explore the feedback for each station location below.

74% of survey respondents stated that they were likely to use a high-frequency, high-capacity service once it is operational
10.5% said it is important for stations to be located in proximity to high-density areas.
5.7% provided feedback regarding the importance of park 'n' ride amenities.
8.5% wanted active transport incorporated into the route including bicycle storage on the vehicles and secure storage at stations.
11.5% provided ideas for the route location.

Creating accessible transport

TMR is committed to providing inclusive and accessible rail and metro-style services. The Wave will collaborate with individuals with lived experience, expertise, and advocacy in accessibility to integrate their insights into travel experiences, station designs, and metro-style vehicles, ensuring the project meets community needs.

Active transport

Active transport connections are being planned along the corridor to ensure people can walk and ride to stations and to other destinations.
