It confirmed there are high levels of interest from industry in participating in the procurement process for The Wave Stage 3 (Metro) Fleet, Operations and Maintenance procurement process which is anticipated to progress to market in late 2026.

Last year, we conducted community consultation to gather community feedback on The Wave Stage 3 (Metro).
The consultation feedback received provided valuable insights into community and stakeholder priorities, needs and preferred travel experiences.
These insights will guide the next stages of the project, including designing and building the metro-style vehicles, planning the depot where they will be stored and maintained, and managing operations once the public transport service is running.
74% of survey respondents stated that they were likely to use a high-frequency, high-capacity service once it is operational.
8.5% wanted active transport incorporated into the route including bicycle storage on the vehicles and secure storage at stations.
4.08% of respondents shared ideas for the metro-style vehicle design, including suggesting features like screens and speakers for stop information and local attractions, clear signage and announcements, and space for airport luggage.
