Fast and reliable public transport

Vehicle technologies are continually evolving, and we are exploring vehicles from around the globe to shape the new public transport service. At the same time, we are closely monitoring the market for innovative and emerging technologies to ensure the Sunshine Coast is equipped with the best solution for the future.

Engaging industry to gather valuable insights

We have recently conducted market sounding to engage with fleet manufacturers and suppliers, operators, and depot design and construct specialist organisations.

This structured process involved engaging with the market to gather valuable insights to further inform the next stages of the project. It confirmed there are high levels of interest from industry in participating in the procurement process for The Wave Stage 3 (Metro) Fleet, Operations and Maintenance procurement process which is anticipated to progress to market in late 2026.

The Fleet, Operations and Maintenance package is likely to include:

  • the design and manufacture of the metro-style vehicle fleet
  • the design and construction of the depot facility to house and maintain the vehicles
  • the day-to-day running of services once operations commence.

Community insights on metro-style vehicles to date

Last year, we conducted community consultation to gather community feedback on The Wave Stage 3 (Metro).

The consultation feedback received provided valuable insights into community and stakeholder priorities, needs and preferred travel experiences.

These insights will guide the next stages of the project, including designing and building the metro-style vehicles, planning the depot where they will be stored and maintained, and managing operations once the public transport service is running.
