About the project

The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) will build 65 new 6-car passenger trains to support Queensland's population and economic growth, including generating hundreds of manufacturing and rail jobs for Queenslanders.

The program includes the construction of a purpose-built manufacturing facility in Torbanlea, outside of Maryborough, as well as a rail facility for train maintenance and stabling in Ormeau on the Gold Coast.

In June 2023, the Queensland Government awarded Downer the Design Build Maintain contract for the QTMP. Since this time, Downer has commenced detailed design and onsite mobilisation activities.

Concept design

Early works and site establishment works will continue at both sites in preparation for major construction activities.

The concept designs for the Torbanlea train manufacturing facility and Ormeau rail facility have now been released, including the site layout and plans for what the facilities may look like.

You have an opportunity to provide feedback to help the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) understand what is important to you and what we need to consider as designs are finalised.
