Overview

The Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade will increase the capacity and reliability of the North Coast Line, enabling more efficient travel and improved passenger and freight connections between the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Brisbane and beyond.

The upgrade will be delivered in stages. B2N Stage 1 will duplicate the section of rail track between Beerburrum and Beerwah, expand three park 'n' ride facilities and upgrade road infrastructure to improve safety and integration with the transport network.

Stage 1 also removes level crossings and creates new shared pathways for improved rail and road safety, connectivity and traffic flow.

The contract to design and construct Stage 1 was awarded in September 2024, with the project’s preliminary designs now being refined through to detailed design, incorporating feedback from community consultation undertaken from 28 May to 20 June 2025. The department would like to thank the community for their valuable input and engagement on the project. The project team will keep the community informed and provide an update on the finalised designs ahead of construction which is expected to begin in 2025.
