Overview

The Townsville Connection Road (locally known as Stuart Drive) is being upgraded to dual lanes between University Road and Bowen Road Bridge including upgrades at all 3 intersections; Gartrell Drive, Mervyn Crossman Drive/Fairfield Waters Drive and Kokoda Street.

There is increasing demand on this section of the state-controlled road network as a result of the growth of schools and surrounding residential, community and commercial development.

JohnScholten says:

Start is well overdue, but it just seems that the bottleneck is being transferred to Bowen Road bridge.Shortly the bridge will be duplicated

Construct the wider paths out of asphalt as it is more durable

Krn17e3 says:

Enhanced safety features, cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and aesthetic appeal of wire rope barriers make them a compelling choice for this

3 July, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

A wire rope median offers superior safety benefits compared to a concrete median.

Ridetheriver says:

Traffic lights near the Maccas will need to prioritize pedestrians especially around 3pm or the kids will not wait. Use countdown timers.

26 June, 2023

Ridetheriver says:

Please extend pathways so they connect instead of 'upgrading' them, chucking some green paint on a high speed road and calling it progress.

19 June, 2023

Lam33 says:

Why are the paths going straight through the trees? The path is pointless if all the shade trees are going to be cut down.

19 June, 2023

Ryder says:

Many large trees will be affected by construction. Hot area for kids using paths. Tree retention and planting should be considered.

mlt says:

so glad to see Bowen road bridge duplication.

16 June, 2023

mlt says:

Good to see widened footpaths designed to be shared with bike. bikes off roads is much safer for all.

16 June, 2023

mlt says:

Entry &exit from Kakoda street should be left turn only, removing the need for traffic light. going from 0 to 3 lights will distroy flow

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Ensure the road is level and doesn’t undulate causing rough travel.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Use high grade asphalt for longevity and durable linemarking paint.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Ensure all kerbing of refuges are painted white to improve visibility and help lane assist using vehicles.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Ensure roads have bright lighting. Paths should have CCTV as well as bus stops. Bus stops should not have panels to prevent graffiti.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Paths under bridge will become hotspot for crime, use existing pathway, there is already access from both sides thanks to a connecting path.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Keep signage to a minimum due to ongoing vandalism such as deliberate vehicle strikes. There is no need for excessive “keep left” signs.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Pedestrian refuges at intersections to be constructed out of pebblecrete and not that awful stencilled concrete that doesn’t last.

12 June, 2023

Krn17e3 says:

Don’t make the shared pathways out of plain concrete!! And use wire rope barriers and not plain concrete road medians for separation.

4 June, 2023

JimmyGC says:

We would want to ride to the TCC, precinct and skate park etc. and we don't want to have 2 lanes of heavy traffic right beside us. Off road!

4 June, 2023

JimmyGC says:

If cycling is to be encouraged it must be safer than this. Bike lanes through bus stops and slip lanes are not safe. Bikes must be separate.
