Planning is underway to improve the safety and efficiency of the Toowoomba Connection (Tor Street) and Hursley roads intersection.
Tor Street is part of the key east-west arterial route through Toowoomba for local traffic and freight, and is approved for use by Type 1 road trains. As areas west of Toowoomba develop, more drivers use Hursley Road, increasing the number of vehicles at this intersection.
This planning project involves assessing the current and future transport requirements at the intersection and investigating options to improve safety and efficiency for all road users.
This intersection is not part of the Principal Cycle Network, therefore the project scope does not include planning to upgrade dedicated bicycle facilities. However, TMR will consider improving safety for bike riders and pedestrians at the intersection.
Key improvements at this intersection may include:
- installing dedicated right-turn lanes
- controlling left turns with signals
- improving shared provisions for bike riders and pedestrians.
This planning project will also consider the flow on effects from changes made at Tor Street and Hursley Road intersection on the local street network and nearby intersections.
