Preliminary works

Preliminary works between Beerwah and Birtinya are now underway. Preliminary works inform development of the reference design and the environmental referral.

This includes:

  • geotechnical investigations
  • baseline noise and vibration monitoring
  • cultural heritage and environmental investigations
  • additional site survey
  • public utility investigations and design
  • flora and fauna mapping
  • groundwater monitoring and contaminated land testing, to ensure environmental impacts are properly assessed.

Residents in close proximity to planned work locations will be notified directly prior to work occurring.

TMR understands works can be frustrating for nearby residents and businesses and acknowledges the cooperation and patience of stakeholders while works are carried out. Please contact the project team on 1800 407 533 or email thewaverail@tmr.qld.gov.au for any questions about preliminary works.

Other early works for construction are anticipated to start following environmental approvals.

Corridor protection

The Caboolture to Maroochydore Corridor Study (CAMCOS) corridor was preserved (protected from development) for a single track in 2001.

The corridor will be protected to Birtinya for a dual track designed to modern rail standards.

TMR contacted directly impacted property owners in 2024 as part of this corridor protection process.
