Overview
Collaborative planning by the Queensland Government and Noosa Shire Council has confirmed staged duplication of Beckmans Road is the recommended approach for the Tewantin Bypass.
Corridor plan
Two new westbound lanes are proposed on the southern side of Beckmans Road, with the existing Beckmans Road converted to 2 eastbound lanes to increase capacity, supported by a landscaped centre median to improve safety by separating opposing traffic flows. Intersection modifications and active transport provisions, including road crossing locations, are also being investigated as part of corridor planning.
Staged duplication will improve travel between Cooroy-Noosa Road and Eumundi-Noosa Road, while reducing congestion and increasing safety for people using Beckmans Road to access homes, schools, and local businesses.
The next upgrade
Stage 1 was completed in 2022, with an upgraded roundabout constructed at the Cooroy-Noosa Road and Beckmans Road intersection. Stage 2 will duplicate Beckmans Road from Swanbourne Way to an improved Eumundi-Noosa Road roundabout.
Two new westbound traffic lanes will be built and the existing road will be converted to 2 eastbound traffic lanes, with a centre median, increasing capacity and safety. Line marking on the existing Eumundi-Noosa Road roundabout will be modified to provide 2 full circulating traffic lanes.
Roundabout metering signals will manage traffic flow during busy periods or traffic incidents. Outside of busy periods or traffic incidents, the Eumundi-Noosa Road intersection will continue to operate as a standard roundabout.
Construction of Stage 2 is expected to begin in 2028, pending environmental approvals. Stage 2 will improve traffic flow along this busy section of road, while corridor planning continues to determine the scope and sequence of future, staged upgrades.
Have your say
Feedback on the corridor plan cross section for staged duplication and the Stage 2 upgrade as shown above is open to 14 December 2026. Complete the feedback question below, drop a pin on the interactive map, attend a community information session, or contact the project team.
Community feedback will be considered alongside technical assessments, design standards, costs, and social and environmental factors. Together, this information will help shape upgrade designs and will be shared with Noosa Shire Council.
