Overview

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is planning for the future duplication of the Sunshine Motorway, between David Low Way at Pacific Paradise, to north of Yandina-Coolum Road at Coolum.

To accommodate future growth, planning has investigated doubling the motorway's capacity from 2 to 4 lanes, as well as other upgrades.

TMR sought feedback from the community in late 2021 to better understand local interests and seek suggestions for future improvements along this important link. More than 600 items of feedback were received that were used to inform a preferred option for the project.

The preferred option achieves a number of strategic objectives and responds to community feedback on key themes including:

  • improved safety
  • eased congestion
  • better active transport provisions
  • upgrades to existing interchanges
  • requests for new interchanges.

TMR sought feedback from the community on the preferred option.

Consultation closed 26 February 2023.

The preferred option

The preferred option includes a grade separated interchange at the Yandina-Coolum Road roundabout that will separate motorway traffic from east and west bound movements. It also includes potential south-facing ramps at West Coolum Road.

Improvements at the Yandina-Coolum Road, School Road and South Coolum Road intersection include upgrading to traffic signals with pedestrian crossings.
