Overview
The Queensland Government is developing a business case to investigate potential upgrade options for the Rocky Point Road Boat Ramp in Winfield. The business case will focus on addressing some of the challenges boaties face when using the existing ramp and improving safety, usability, and access for recreational boaters. It will also identify solutions that will deliver a safer, more accessible, and enjoyable experience for everyone.
We are committed to improving boating infrastructure to support Winfield's close-knit community and the recreational boaties who rely on the Rocky Point Road Boat Ramp.
Community consultation
Community feedback will help inform the business case by developing concept design options that reflect the needs and preferences of local boaties and how the facility is used. This consultation provided an opportunity for the community to review the design options and share their views before recommendations are finalised.
Any recommendations from the business case will be considered as part of future planning and investment decisions.
Phase 1: Community consultation (completed late 2025)
We met with the local community in late 2025 to better understand how the boating community use the boat ramp, what works well, key issues experienced at the site, and to get ideas for improving it within the investigation area.
Community members shared valuable feedback about ramp usability, safety, tidal access, and ideas for potential improvements. This has helped inform the development of 3 proposed concept design options, which were shared with the community for further feedback.
Phase 2: Have your say on the proposed design options (completed in mid-April 2026)
Community consultation on 3 proposed concept design options for potential upgrades to the Rocky Point Road Boat Ramp was open from March to April 2026.
The proposed options were developed using feedback received during Phase 1 consultation in late 2025. Feedback gathered during this phase will help identify a preferred option and inform final business case recommendations.
Consultation closed on Sunday 12 April 2026.
Proposed concept design options
Option 1 proposed concept design (1 of 3) - Reconstructed single boat ramp lane with a floating walkway and pontoon
Option 2 proposed concept design (2 of 3) - 2 new boat ramp lanes with a central floating walkway
Option 3 proposed concept design (3 of 3) - Reconstructed single boat ramp lane
Thanks for having your say – next steps
All feedback will be reviewed to identify a preferred design option. The business case will then be submitted by mid-2026, with any recommendations considered as part of future planning and investment decisions.
The community will be kept informed as the business case progresses.
