Overview
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is reviewing the Transport Infrastructure (State-Controlled Roads) Regulation 2017 (the Regulation) to ensure it continues to meet the needs of Queenslanders. This Regulation is part of the laws that help us manage and maintain roads of national and state importance, keeping them safe and accessible for everyone.
In Queensland, subordinate legislation is reviewed every 10 years to ensure it remains effective and relevant. The current Regulation is due to expire on 1 September 2027 unless it is updated and remade.
The Regulation helps TMR manage state-controlled roads by:
- Supporting fatigue management by providing rest areas and allowing limited camping on state-controlled roads for fatigue management purposes.
- Preventing the misuse of rest areas and addressing illegal camping on state-controlled roads.
- Managing public utilities (like water pipes and sewerage) located on state-controlled roads.
- Setting rules for approvals for structures, activities and works on state-controlled roads.
- Allowing TMR to investigate and prepare land for roadworks.
