The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is currently developing the North Queensland Regional Freight Plan (NQRFP) in response to short-term actions set out in the Far North Queensland, Northern Queensland and North West Queensland Regional Transport Plans (RTPs) and as a key deliverable under the Queensland Freight Action Plan (QFAP) (2020).

The North Queensland Region and project study area extends from Ayr in the south, north to the Torres Strait and west to the Northern Territory border.

The NQRFP project aims to develop an integrated multi-modal plan that identifies key barriers and priority improvements (infrastructure and non-infrastructure) for the freight transport network. Its objective is to support safer and more efficient movement of freight across North Queensland with a view to advancing the region’s economic potential.

To help TMR better understand the broad range of issues, opportunities and priorities relating to freight transport for community and industry stakeholders, we are currently seeking your ideas and feedback about freight transport in North Queensland.
