Overview

The Queensland Government is investigating ways to improve safety on the New England Highway between Pioneer Road, Geham and Harlaxton, Toowoomba.

This section of the New England Highway has been identified for safety improvements due to the high predicted growth around Highfields over the next twenty years and the anticipated increase in road users.

This is a planning project only, with no funding currently allocated for design or construction.

Have your say

As part of the planning process we want to hear from the community about any safety concerns on this 18km section of the New England Highway, especially around key intersections.

Your feedback will be used to help us understand local issues and determine the most appropriate improvements.

Community feedback will be considered together with technical data, road design standards, costs, social factors (including impacts on property, environment, and heritage) and project objectives when developing and assessing upgrade options. Improving road safety and traffic efficiency on the New England Highway will be key priorities.

Consultation will be open until Wednesday 8 April 2026.
