The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has started planning for Stage 3 of the Highfields Bikeway and wants to hear from you. Stage 3 will connect from Hi Winds Road to the John French VC Bridge.

The Highfields and Toowoomba communities have provided feedback for previous stages of the bikeway and now that planning has started for Stage 3, TMR would like to ask a few more questions.

There is an opportunity for this stage of the bikeway to look a little different. Given the location, there are options to plan on-road or off-road facilities. The path could continue to follow the New England Highway, or it could take the scenic route behind Mount Kynoch.

Which route the bikeway takes depends on what features and benefits the community would like, paired with meeting the latest industry design standards.

The most common themes from consultation during previous stages of the bikeway were safety at priority crossings and the importance of a connection to side roads such as Murphys Creek Road. All previous feedback is being incorporated into the planning for this project.

The map below shows Stages 1 and 2 of the bikeway and the start and finish points of Stage 3.

TMR invited feedback to identify how bike riders will use the path and determine what impacts concern motorists. The feedback collected will be collated to guide the planning process.
