Overview

Maritime Safety Queensland announced the proposed design for the Inkerman Creek Floating Walkway (Port Alma Road) project in mid-February 2026. Community consultation was open from mid-February to mid-March 2026 to gather feedback on the proposed design.

Construction of the Inkerman Creek boat ramp was completed in mid-2023, following its relocation from the Port Alma Shipping Terminal, providing important access to Inkerman Creek and offshore destinations for local communities and visitors.

The proposed floating walkway will improve safety, accessibility, and ease of use at the boat ramp, delivering a stable platform to make it easier to launch and retrieve vessels in strong tidal conditions.

Community feedback was sought to confirm the proposed floating walkway aligns with the needs and safety priorities of boat ramp users.

Consultation closed on Sunday 15 March 2026.

Project features

Proposed features include:

  • Floating walkway with a concrete deck, 50 metres long and 2.5 metres wide
  • Solar-powered light pole for improved visibility at night and in low light
  • New cleats and fixtures to support vessel tie-up.

Community benefits

The proposed floating walkway will:

  • Improve safety: Reduces the need to enter the water when launching and retrieving vessels
  • Better tidal access: Supports safer and easier launching and retrieval when tidal currents are strong
  • Improved security: Solar lighting provides clearer access during low-light conditions.

Your feedback will ensure the project reflects community needs and priorities for new boating infrastructure at the boat ramp.

Thanks for having your say – next steps

Community consultation on the proposed design was open from mid-February to mid-March 2026.

Maritime Safety Queensland will now review all feedback to confirm support for the proposed floating walkway and gather key insights from boat ramp users.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to have their say. An update on the next steps will be shared by mid-2026
