The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is investigating options to improve safety and reduce the number of fatal and serious injury crashes.

This planning project aims to identify and develop solutions to address safety issues on the Gore Highway and Toowoomba-Athol Road, between Wyreema-Athol Road and James Street in Toowoomba.

This section of road varies from a two-lane rural highway to a heavily trafficked four-lane urban highway. Safety improvements will aim to benefit all road users including pedestrians, bike riders and motorists.

Have your say

As part of the planning process, TMR would like to hear from the community about safety issues on the Gore Highway and Toowoomba-Athol Road.

As a road user, your experiences are key to understanding local safety issues which will help TMR with planning potential safety improvements.

Solutions will be prioritised based on their ability to deliver the greatest road safety benefits, reduce fatal and serious injury crashes and provide a consistent experience for road users on state-controlled roads in urban environments.

Community feedback will be used to help prioritise safety options. Select safety improvements will be included in the business case and put forward for future funding.
