The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is progressing a project to identify an alternate route for heavy vehicles travelling to and from the Port of Gladstone.

The project is in the planning phase with 2 route options being assessed in developing the project's business case.

Community feedback received about the route options will be considered in the business case which will identify the preferred route and why it was chosen.

Planning activities are ongoing with the business case expected to be finalised in early 2021.

About the route options

The two route options under investigation include:

  • Option A (blue): identifies the Gladstone-Mount Larcom Road corridor as a potential access route for targeted upgrades.
  • Option B (orange): identifies a new Gladstone Port Access Road corridor and Blain Drive corridor (a local government road) as a potential access route for targeted upgrades. This option was identified in 2013 as part of planning for Gladstone Port Access Road Extension (GPARE) Stage 2 and 3.
