Preliminary master plan
TMR has developed a preliminary master plan for the entire route and sought community feedback to inform the preferred master plan solution.

About the project
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is progressing planning for a program of road upgrades along Captain Cook Highway between Cairns and Smithfield.
The project will identify, investigate and construct upgrades along the Captain Cook Highway to improve safety, capacity and connectivity along the link.
The project includes a package of works for the section of Captain Cook Highway between Airport Avenue and James Street.
