Overview

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is planning an upgrade to the Burgowan Road and Gympie Street intersection at Torbanlea.

In the revised intersection design, TMR has included a pedestrian footpath from Gympie Street to Burgowan Road and Gladstone Road.

Background

As part of enabling works for the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) Torbanlea train manufacturing facility, roadworks will be completed to improve safety and prepare the area for an uplift in local traffic and heavy vehicle use.

The Burgowan Road and Gympie Street intersection works were initially scheduled to commence from late January 2023 and were expected to take 2 to 3 months to complete.

TMR received community feedback on the proposed design of the intersection, which was included in the January 2023 Works Notice and the November 2022 Project Update.

The works were postponed while the design was revised to include a pedestrian footpath from Gympie Street to Burgowan Road and Gladstone Road.

There is also a dedicated turning lane from Burgowan Road into Burgowan Road North and Gladstone Road. A Revised design: The updated design includes a proposed footpath to connect the existing footpath on Robertson Street to the existing level crossing at Gympie Street. The footpath will lead south along Burgowan Road and positioned away from the road for pedestrian safety
