Overview

The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is developing the business case to build a road overpass and remove the rail level crossing at Beams Road, Carseldine.

The business case will consider community feedback and investigate a preferred design option in detail.

As plans progress to remove the level crossing, TMR is seeking community feedback to help deliver the best outcome for the area.

Project funding

In June 2020, the Queensland Government committed a further $128 million towards construction of an overpass to remove the rail level crossing, as well as upgrades to the Carseldine park 'n' ride.

The Queensland Government is fully committed to delivering this project, and construction of the $233 million level crossing overpass could commence as early as December 2021, with funding contributions from Brisbane City Council and the Australian Government.

Preferred design

TMR is considering a preferred design option to build a road overpass over the railway line.

Benefits

  • completely remove the rail level crossing
  • includes active transport paths for walking, bike riding and mobility devices.

Impacts

  • potential to impact residential properties
  • will reduce the number of car parks at the existing Carseldine park 'n' ride, however this impact will be offset by the development of a new park ‘n’ ride area on the eastern side of the rail line.
